Meet Your Site Manager: Wendy Hubbard

May 7, 2026

Every historic site has a story—and so do the people who care for them. Meet Wendy Hubbard, Lincoln Site Manager at Historic New England. She has been with the organization for nineteen years and manages Gropius House, the Codman Estate, and Cooper-Frost-Austin House. When Wendy isn’t doing tours and public programs, she enjoys fun with family or friends and is a supporter of local, live, independent music.

Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to be a site manager at Historic New England.

My road to becoming a site manager at Historic New England included studies in art history, small business development, and nonprofit management in a local historical society and an art college.

Which parts of your work do you find most rewarding and the most challenging?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is engaging with visitors. My most challenging and compelling work is presenting historic house museums in fresh ways and to new audiences.

When you think about your sites, what is one favorite thing that comes to mind?

My favorite thing about my sites is the diversity of time, place, people, and stories, ranging from early European colonization in 1681, to high-style Georgian Colonial architecture in 1740, to the Modern Movement in 1938.

What kinds of experiences do you most enjoy creating for members and visitors?

I enjoy creating experiences for members and visitors that are convivial and fun, like artist performances, sociable gatherings, and connecting to our intriguing museum objects.

Are there any new tours, programs, or surprises visitors can look forward to this season?

One surprise that visitors can look forward to this 2026 season is a program with a notable Boston-area architectural photographer who will be presenting four photo workshops, drawing inspiration from Gropius House and modern architecture in Cambridge.

Do you have a favorite local spot or activity near your sites that you like to recommend to friends or visitors?

My favorite local spot that I recommend to friends or visitors is the gorgeous Codman Estate gardens in June. Peonies, roses, perennials, trees, and shrubs make it a wonderland in bloom.
