Locations pictured include family homes; Round Pond in Bristol, Maine; Harbor Island in Phippsburg, Maine; Fairfield High and Fairfield Station in Fairfield, Maine; and Wayside Inn in Sudbury, Massachusetts, among others. Events such as a Labor Day picnic, grandfather's birthday, and the wedding of Miss Harriet are pictured. The album also touches on aspects of everyday life such as attending school, going on vacation, and visiting family. Photos span from 1905-1931, although the bulk are from after Swett's birth in 1922. Album illustrates life in 1920s and early 1930s, with particular focus on style of dress and exteriors and interiors of houses.

Robert Elvin Swett was born in Waterville, Maine, on September 20, 1922. His parents were Warren and Sarah Swett. At age six, his family moved to Everett, Massachusetts. He graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1942 with a degree in architectural construction. He served in World War II as a naval aviator. In June 1945, he married Marjorie Hansen. They had one son, Paul, who was born in 1949. Following his discharge from the service, he designed electric stairways and freight elevators for Westinghouse Elevator company. in 1948, he and his wife moved to Mount Vernon, Washington, where he opened an architectural drafting business. In 1953, the family moved to Cumberland, Maine. Here, Swett opened a building and contracting business that operated until his retirement in 1990. Upon his retirement, he returned to a family property on Muscongus Sound in Lincoln County, Maine. He passed away on September 12, 2006 in Damariscotta, Maine.
