Historical/Biographical Note

The Ted Williams Tunnel is a highway tunnel in Boston, Massachusetts. It is named after U.S. Marine Aviation veteran and former Boston Red Rox Player Ted Williams (1918-2002). Construction on the tunnel began in 1991 and completed in 1995. It was originally only open for authorized commercial traffic, with some non-commercial traffic on weekends and holidays. Starting in 2003, the tunnel was opened to all traffic at all times.
