Houses for the Gardiner Building Association, Gardiner, Maine
George Francis Marlowe was born in Norwood, England in 1877. He moved to Worcester, Massachusetts as a child, graduating from Worcester High School before studying architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). After graduation, Marlowe worked for Boston architectural firms, Peabody and Stearns, and Andres, Jacques, and Rantoul where he designed buildings for Wellesley College and Babson College (then Babson Institute) in Wellesley, Massachusetts. By the late 1920s, he established his own private architectural firm and worked on projects including municipal buildings and churches. As Marlowes career continued, he focused on housing. Marlowe was a longtime member of the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, the American Institute of Architects, and he authored numerous books regarding New England's cultural and architectural history that included his own illustrations and sketches.
