Recipe for "plain cake" written by Matilda M. Lewis (later Matilda Goodrich) of Rutland, Vermont. On the reverse is a poem dedicated to her younger cousin, Melissa A. Goodrich (later Melissa Carter). The recipe was gifted to S.P.N.E.A. by Melissa's daughter, Ada Carter Hopson. Written in pencil under the poem is a note: "This for your mother. I see it is dedicated to her."
