Description

10 black and white photographic prints taken by photographer Fred C. Small of Buzzards Bay, Mass. They depict rehearsals for the "Pageant of Cape Cod", which was put on in celebration of the opening of the Cape Cod Canal in August 1914. The pageant was described as "a magnificent out-door presentation of the drama that lies in the history and life of this community from the time of the landing of Bartholomew Gosnold and the naming of the Cape in 1602." The images in this collection depict various scenes from the pageant, including people dressed in stereotypical "Pilgrim" and "Colonial American" costumes, military reenactments, allegorical dances, and more.
