Historical/Biographical Note

Historical/Biographical Note

Promisel's Food Mart operated at this location on Blue Hill Ave from at least 1955 until 1965, whereon it closed following the owner's death. Promisel's was owned and operated by John Promisel, who inherited the grocery store (previously located elsewhere in Dorchester) from his father Louis. Louis and his wife Lena were both Jewish immigrants from what is now Ukraine, and John served in World War I.
