Description

Watercolor painting of Boston with Beacon Hill and the Massachusetts State House in the background and marsh lands in the foreground. On the Verso, inscription written in pencil, "Done by Langford Warren at corner of Boylston St. and Mass. Ave." Artist signature and date 10/16/87 in lower left corner of the painting. Artist is Herbert Langford Warren.

The painting was removed from the frame. The frame and glass front is currently resting at the bottom of the container.

Herbert Langford Warren (1857-1917) was a British born New England architect. He attended school at Owens College in Manchester, England, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and studied under the architect H.H. Richardson in Brookline, Mass. Mr. Warren is associated with the Arts and Crafts movement in the United States. He founded, and was the first chair of, the School of Architecture at Harvard University.
