Description

This scrapbook page contains harmful imagery regarding sexual harassment.

Historic New England acknowledges historical records / objects may contain harmful imagery and language reflecting attitudes and biases of their creators and time in which they were made. Historic New England does not alter or edit objects and / or historical text.

This nicely bound scrapbook contains approximately 70 illustrated trade cards interspersed with greeting cards and sayings. Trade cards are from Boston area suppliers of domestic items such as sewing threads, soaps, toys, gloves, breakfast cereals, jewelry, millinery, confectionery, patent rememdies, watches and sewing machines. Merchants recognizable today are J. & P. Coats, White Sewing Machine Co., Jordan Marsh and Whitman's Confectioners. Many of the cards include endearing images of children and animals. No dates accompany this collection but would appear to be from the late nineteenth century.
