Description

This collection consists of the institutional archives of Historic New England (formerly the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities or SPNEA) since the institution’s founding in 1910. The history of the organization is recorded in a variety of documents: minutes of Trustees' meetings; Executive Committee minutes; by-laws; membership record books; records related to the history, acquisition, and maintenance of Historic New England properties; legal documents and other related materials; accessions files; correspondence; internal and external printed matter; publications; and the papers of several of the organization's directors and presidents. In addition to the organizational records, holdings also include William Sumner Appleton's scrapbooks and diaries. This collection does not contain any born-digital items or digital copies of reports, marketing materials, newsletters, etc. This collection does not include the SPNEA periodical Old-Time New England (can be found in collection SC001).
