Description

Black and White photograph of Mrs. Jarley's Wax Works - Wellesley, 1889. Photo displays a group of individuals dressed up as characters from the popular play " Mrs. Jarleys Wax Works." Mrs. Jarley was a character from Dicken's "Old Curiosity Shop", who was a proprietor of travelling Wax Works shows, which were enormously popular in the late 19th century. See enclosed folder with articles discussing the play and the wax works shows, where life-size wax figures depicted famous people. In this photo you will notice Betsy Ross and Lady Liberty.
