Built in the in the late 1600s, the Burgess House is considered the oldest house in Wareham, Massachusetts. The Burgess family purchased the house in 1709 and stayed in the family for over 250 years. Originally, the house only contained five rooms. As the Burgess family grew, rooms were added to accommodate their needs. The house remained in the Burgess family until the mid-20th century, when the unmarried Lillian Burgess died. The house fell into disrepair until it was purchased and restored by Gerry and Paul Pearle in 1973.
