"Dining Chair"

Description

Design drawing titled "Dining Chair" rendered in pencil on trace. Perspective view is shown. Neoclassical-style side chair has molded shield-shaped back with carved kylix in an oval cartouche at top with foliate swags and shell motifs, five pierced ribs, and a bottom lunette; molded stiles; upholstered seat with serpentine front and a single row of metal tacks along lower edge; seat rail with molded bottom edge and corners; raked rectangular rear legs; tapered reeded round legs in front with three ring turnings at top; and cylindrical front feet with ringed cuffs. Title, design notes, "W. S. Benson" and "29 - 9 - 1905 C. F. W." are handwritten on drawing.
