Historical/Biographical Note

Historical/Biographical Note

Nineteenth-century evangelist, Dwight Lyman Moody, founded two institutions: The Northfield Seminary for Young Ladies (1879) and the Mount Hermon School for Boys (1881) in Northfield, Massachusetts. Built for poor children without access to other means of education, the two schools remained seperate until 1972, when they merged into Northfield Mount Hermon, a coeducational school.

Following the merger, both the Northfield and Mount Hermon campus continued to be utilized until 2004 when the campus was consolidated to the Mount Hermon campus. The majority of the Northfield campus was sold following this consolidation, including the land where the Talcott Library stood. It is unknown whether the Talcott Library is still standing or has been demolished.
