Historic New England publishes short general interest articles (no more than 1,000 words) on the diverse histories of our region and on the contemporary preservation movement. All articles should relate in some way to our mission, properties, museum or archival collections, or the communities of which we are part.
We welcome pitches from journalists, professionals working in fields related to history and historic preservation, and academic researchers (including graduate students). Historic New England is a member magazine, not a trade journal or a scholarly publication, so articles should use non-technical language aimed at an educated general audience. We offer a $500 honorarium to authors outside of our organization.
We typically respond to inquiries within a month. If you have submitted a pitch and have not heard from us in that time, you may follow up by emailing Magazine@HistoricNewEngland.org. Please do not send the full text of unsolicited articles.
