The letters highlight Abel Coffins (1792-1837) travels around the world and focus on ports-of-call; ship building; ocean crossings; funerals at sea; transportation of cargo; and information relating to conjoined twins Chang and Eng Bunker (1811-1874). See #1.19, C.2.48, VF for related material regarding the Bunker brothers. The series also contains correspondence received by Susan Coffin (1792-1837) from friends and acquaintances. The series is arranged chronologically starting with correspondence received from Abel Coffin (1792-1837), followed by other correspondence.
