Description

Single-sheet appeal flyer made by the Boston chapter of the Young Men's Fremont Club (also known as the Young Men's Republican Union), an anti-slavery and pro-Republican activist group formed in New York City in 1856. The flyer, printed July 30, 1856, appeals for donations to help the Club host a convention of like-minded young men ahead of the 1856 election in the fall. It lists the names of several notable donors, including Josiah Quincy IV, Benjamin C. Clark, and Gen. John S. Tyler. On the reverse of the flyer, the following is written in pencil by an unidentified person: "Read John 9-11 + then pay [illegible] the $10 now on the bed."
