Ships

Description

This subseries includes many glass plate and acetate or nitrate negatives of ships, shipping, piers, and docks throughout the New England coast lines. One ship that is features is the Constitution, which was noted for its action during the War of 1812. The general file provides images of named ships, such as “Chinese Junk,” “Monitor” “Leviathan,” “Sooloo,” and many others. The subseries also features shipwrecks, including headlines about the sinking of the Titanic and the Portland, and many other ships off the coast of New England. Also included are images of various steamships, in Boston Harbor and other ports in New England. Lastly, there are images of yachts and yacht races off the New England coast.
