Hunger Marches

Description

This subseries includes glass plate and acetate or nitrate negatives of hunger marches in Boston. Hunger marches were a form of social protest that arose in the United Kingdom in the early 20th century. The protests spread during the Great Depression, where the unemployed and underemployed gathered to protest the economic, political, and social life of the time. In Massachusetts, the protests occurred throughout Boston, specifically on the Boston Common and near the State House. Negatives 1688 and 1694 are nitrate negatives and have been removed to box 19, container 000017835.
