A letter to Eliza Susan (Morton) Quincy (addressed as "Mrs. Morton") in care of Judge Quincy in Boston from Eleanor Nelly Parke Custis Lewis, granddaughter of Martha Washington and step-granddaughter of President George Washington. Mrs. Morton is perhaps a relative of Eliza Susan (Morton) Quincy. The letter is accompanied by an envelope with a note erroneously indicating that Mrs. Lewis is the granddaughter of Martha Washington; she is in fact her daughter. The letter is also accompanied by a note which indicates that Mrs. Lewis visited the Quincy family in August, 1822, and wrote the letter in February, 1823, from either Philadelphia or Washington. The pencil note has an ink addition, clearly written in a different hand, explaining Nelly's family and relationship to George Washington and also noting that she is depicted in "The Washington Family," a portrait by Edward Savage created between 1789 and 1796.
