Description

This plate appeared in the magazine, "Repository of Arts, Literature, Commerce, Manufacture, Fashions, and Politics," published by Rudolph Ackermann from 1818 to 1828. The text in a panel at the bottom of the plate reads: "Manufacturers, factors, and wholesale dealers in fancy goods, that come within scope of this plan, are requested to send patterns of such new articles, as they come out, and if the requisistes of novelty, fashion, and elegance, are united, the quantity necessary for this magazine will be ordered." Above the panel are three fabric samples, to the left of which is a representation of the goddess Britannia and to the left of which is a representation of the god Poseidon. The British royal coat of arms crowns this arrangment. A woman blowing a trumpet and holding a caduceus flies above this scene.
